Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the open-source language model stage: Replit. This start-up has been making a real name for themselves in the AI arena lately, and now they’ve gone and released their first base model - ReplitLM. And you guessed it, it specialises in generative coding - claiming state-of-the-art performance on the typical benchmarks, better even than OpenAI’s Codex! The model is also open-sourced commercially, meaning that you can use and integrate it into your company’s processes to your heart’s content.

If you wanna keep your mojo, then you gotta start programming with Mojo… is what their slogan should totally be. Now technically this came out yesterday, but it’s picked up a bit of attention on social media, and rightly so. AI company Modular just released a programming language specialised for AI development - and don’t worry, it’s in the style of Python (mostly) but runs at the blazing-fast speed of C. Fully compatible with all Python packages, it’s also completely parallelizable, which if you’re in the know regarding AI dev, you’ll know is insanely useful. Some comments are flying around expressing disappointment that it hasn’t been open-sourced yet, but let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Time to chat about the daaark side of the generative AI hype. Meta has said that they’re seeing a worryingly large growth of malware being spread across Facebook via ChatGPT. And by ChatGPT, they mean ads and the like posing as apps built on the technology - you know, the kind you see popping up everywhere. So make sure you watch out! Just like you don’t click on the ads that promise you a six-pack in one week (I hope you don’t anyway…), don’t just click willy-nilly on the latest ChatGPT-based app appearing on your sidebar.
