Money In Money Out — big funding rounds for AI companies.
You might have noticed an increase in the funding posts this week. There have been billion-dollar acquisitions and millions in funding and we’re ending the week on an even higher note.
Our text-to-video friends at Runway have raised $141M from Google, Nvidia and others. (link).
Then the new startup, Inflection AI from Mustafa Suleyman and Reid Hoffman raised $1.3B. What for? you ask… NVIDIA GPU clusters. (link)
Plus, Stability AI secures a convertible note. (link)

Now we know, there’s plenty of money in the AI market but what’s one thing AI companies need more than money? Talented engineers to make these AI systems work.
Our friends at Lightspeed have done an analysis of 3500 AI native companies to make a list of The Generative Eight - 8 companies with the best AI talent in town.
Open AI, Anthropic and Hugging Face are on it (of course). From the image world, Midjourney and Stability AI are joined by Character AI. The other two are Jasper and Tome.
Check out the full report of where the engineers in these teams went to school, their previous companies and 11 upcoming companies to dominate the next gen of AI.

Anthropic comes out with interesting frameworks for AI models and safety checks. The ones we all have never thought about but desperately need.
This time, they are testing how models behave when asked about big questions like democracy, economy, religion etc. Turns out the model answers are generally similar to average users from US, Europe and Canada. No brainer, right?
But the next thing is that when asked to respond from the perspective of another country eg Russia or Turkey, the answers can be steered to country-specific answers. This does have the loophole of stereotypes but is still a critical aspect that countries will look for when adopting/regulating AI.
