Hey folks, today we have document search across all of your cloud from Dropbox. Then Google’s using AI to detect money laundering for banks. Deepmind is now on to robotic cats (not literally) after acing chess and protein folding.

Let’s get to it.

It always baffles me hearing about the extent of industries that these Big Tech companies get involved with - their fingers are just in all sorts of pies all the time. Google’s latest update is in the anti-money laundering space - who woulda thought!

They’re launching an AML tool for banks that uses AI to move away from the traditional, manual approaches used to detect and monitor financial crime. The crux is that it helps banks fully comply with the regulations needed to ensure proper crime monitoring, and it’s being used by some big guns already, including HSBC.

Dropbox isn’t a name we feature here too often - in fact, I think this might be a first! Weheyyy, congratulations Dropbox… If you didn’t think that storage solutions could get more exciting than they already are, you’d be wrong… They’re announcing plans to bring AI into the mix, with a tool that summarises and extracts info from stored files, and can answer prompt-based questions about said data. The cool part?

Dropbox Dash, the new universal search product from them, can search not just Dropbox files but all your cloud stuff, from your Google Docs to your Airtables to Slack and Salesforce and everything in between.

On top of this, they’re also dipping their toes into the VC world, rolling out a $50m fund to support the next generation of AI startups.

Who knew DeepMind has been getting stuck into robotics!? I always thought they stick to Chess, Go, and all kinds of mystical mathematical advances. I’m not so sure about the name, but their RoboCat is apparently the first to be able to solve and independently adapt to multiple tasks using different robots.

It’s trained on a couple hundred tasks, observes a number of human-controlled demos, and learns how to operate different robotic arms. It can even self-generate new data to improve further… These guys really are the gift that keeps on giving.
