Hey folks, today we have Metaā€™s new model for image recognition with a different framework from the existing ones.

The EU is nonstop with its bill on AI, but to what end? And Google has some new features like skin disease recognition, previewing clothes, etc.

Letā€™s get to it.

Does Ben really bite?

The cool thing about AI is that you can now learn anything. Learn.xyzā€™s users created more than 45.000 courses in just the last 12 weeks. Some examples:

Oh, the plot thickens! It seems like Yann LeCun, Meta's Chief AI Scientist isn't just all talk. He said very early that ChatGPT is not that smart and is definitely not the way to AGI. He and his team are on the work to put some proof behind their words.

They have cooked up a brand new architecture that's set to shake up the AI scene. From what I gather, this newfangled architecture is all about training models that understand the big picture of images, rather than getting bogged down in predicting every single pixel.

Now I donā€™t know how technically correct that is, but the paper is coming at CVPR 2023 next week with the code and checkpoints open-sourced today. Will keep you all posted.

EUā€™s back at it again with another draft law for AI getting approved. But I have mixed feelings about this. EU seems more like in a race, to get ahead US, or China or Japan. The race to regulate AI.

My worry is that this may hurt AI companies in the EU, leading to a lack of innovation in the region. Because they are talking about fines for open source (if misused), restrictions on APIs, and more.

I can hope that the regulations really work on things like secure systems and human adaptation and not be just another ā€œaccept cookiesā€ banner.
