I love Google updates and I love robotics progress, so this one is a double whammy. Google has announced RT-2, an AI model that translates both vision and language in robot motion. Using transformers as the underlying tech, it uses web data knowledge to develop reasoning and action abilities, doubling RT-1’s ability to adapt to novel scenarios. Check out the NYT’s sneak peek into RT-2.

TechCrunch has released the agenda for their AI stage at the 2023 Disrupt conference, and there are some heavy hitters! There will be talks from the likes of Hassabis at DeepMind on upcoming research and products; Anthropic’s Co-founder on responsible AI; AI’s resident doomer Gary Marcus; and many more.

Got a good bit of open-source work coming out this weekend. The team at together.ai have brought the context window of LLaMA-2-7B to 32k tokens. They use a mixture of interpolation and pre-training to grow it, and have fully shared the data recipe and approach. Furthermore, they say they’ve improved the tech for inference and fine-tuning within the new 32k context framework.
