Well, don’t mind the previous threats of pulling out of EU from Open AI because they just opened a new office in London. And with that London now has offices of OpenAI, Anthropic, Deepmind, the holy trinity of AI.
Considering this is their first office outside of San Franciso, it’s a big deal. I bet cozying up with the EU regulations was a huge factor in this choice.
At the same time though: OpenAI faces class action over how it used people’s data. (link, without paywall here)

Databricks and Snowflake are both cloud based data storage companies. Both are making big moves to get their enterprise customers make AI apps using that data.
We covered Snowflake yesterday and now Databricks (that just acquired MosaicML for $1.3B) has announced LakehouseIQ, an LLM interface for companies to use natural language to search and query their data. (Counter for Neeva’s search use in Snowflake). Then Lakehouse AI that allows LLM ops with a bunch of models in its model marketplace (counter to Nvidia”s Nemo in Snowflake).
The post has more comparisons but one thing is clear, all these data companies are on the move.

So, last week CEO of Hugging Face, Clément Delangue, gave testimony to US Congress and made the case for open-source AI. The folks at Giskard have made a nice little summary with key points of the discussion. Here’s what you need to know:
1) Open source = Democratising AI
2) Innovation is driven by open source papers and tools: Transformer’s attention framework, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Hugging Face etc.
3) Ethical AI needs safeguards, community moderation and copyright opt in/opt out options.
