Meta claims SOTA in art generation
PLUS: FTC investigates Open AI and China's AI guidelines.
Hello folks, here’s what we have today;
Our picks
1/
Meta has started talking up their latest AI art generation model, and they’re claiming state-of-the-art performance on text-to-image generation, with it able to accurately create captions for images too. Called CM3Leon (jarring name, I know), it moves away from diffusion models to rely on transformers, boosting speed, requiring 5x less compute, and being parallelisable.
2/
If EU wasn’t enough, China unveils the final version of its generative AI guidelines. This draft omits some restrictions from its April 2023 draft, signalling more flexible regulations. There will be an overseeing body made up of seven Chinese state committees to keep AI in check over there. In the meanwhile, Musk tells China's leaders that superintelligent AI could overthrow them.
3/
Talking about Musk, here are some highlights from his Twitter Space about X AI. It will work with Tesla for both data and hardware collaboration. It will use Twitter content to train a new LLM (with the promise of not being politically correct). Musk even topped it off by alleging that existing AI companies have used Twitter data illegally.
One other thing: they also spoke about Dojo, a supercomputer Tesla is developing for AI machine learning and computer vision training purposes.
4/
Open AI is under the FTC’s investigation for damaging people’s reputation via generating false information. This is an early stage investigation with not much being public about it. Unlikely that this will cause any big damage for Open AI. FTC investigation of Open AI.
