Hey everyone. Hope you all had a good weekend. I'm kicking off this week with a cold, but we keep going! Welcome to the 186 folks joining us since last week.

This week I'm testing a new tool and will be writing the first 'Ben's Breakdown' on it. Hopefully, I can get it out to you by Friday. Let's get to it.

Oh yeah, Happy Halloween if you're into that.

  • Andrej Karpathy was on the Lex Fridman Podcast. Here’s my summary: In the conversation, Andrej explains that a neural network is a mathematical abstraction of the brain. He says that they are just a sequence of matrix multiplies with some nonlinearities thrown in and that the knobs in the neural net (which are loosely related to synapses in the brain) can be trained to make the neural net do what you want it to do. He also says that when you have a large enough number of these knobs, they can surprise you with their power.

  • James Douma, Scott Walter, and John (Dr Know it All) join Farzad Mesbahi in discussing the latest developments in robotics and AI and how these developments will impact Tesla's future. Friday, 11/4 3:30PM CENTRAL.

  • A school in Germany is testing the use of AI in exams, where students can use AI tools to help them with their work. There is a rule that copied parts from the AI are marked as citations, and students have to justify why they used them in their reflections. So far the students are finding the AI texts helpful as suggestions. However, they are not blindly relying on them, and are instead using them as ideas. Future experiments could include having students interpret images generated by AI from literary texts.

  • The history of artificial intelligence starts with early attempts by humans to create machines that could think and process information. “History Of AI In 33 Breakthroughs: The First ‘Thinking Machine’”.

  • A new approach to image generation, UPainting, is designed to improve the fidelity and alignment of generated images. UPainting is a simple yet effective approach to unifying the generation of images of simple and complex scenes.
