Regulation is on the way dear
PLUS: Open AI's bug bounty program and Twitter is buying GPUs, for Elon knows what.
Hey folks, today we’ve got everyone’s favourite topic….regulation 💀 both in the US and China, Elon’s up to something (else) with AI, OpenAI launched their bug bounty program and Zapier now gives you the power to create your own ChatGPT, run automations from it and soon a way to build a Q&A system for your data.
Let’s get to it.

Sorry guys, but we’re gonna have to dip our toes into the ugly but necessary world of tech regulation - there was lots of it hot off the press yesterday! According to the WSJ, the Biden administration is weighing up options around the regulation of AI, specifically language models. Given that the likes of OpenAI have been operating in a regulation-free zone for the past few years, and moves like this could shift the ground a lot. They’re reportedly considering such things as requiring that models get a certification prior to their release - I’m getting whiffs of the ‘Pause AI Letter’ with that one! (Un-paywalled here.)
For a few good pieces on the Chinese government swooping in to squash Alibaba’s big release of their ChatGPT equivalent, check this and this out.

Was Elon Musk reeeaally that concerned about the speed of AI development, or was he just a tad jealous of OpenAI’s pure dominance with ChatGPT? I’m leaning towards the latter. There are rumours going around that he’s just gone in on GPUs for Twitter, buying 10,000 or so of them a month after hiring two established Google DeepMind scientists. And we all know what that combination of purchases means… It looks like he’s got plans for a language model of his own! I have to say, it’d be pretty cool to have chatbot and AI capabilities within Twitter, but I can’t imagine it’ll do their bot problem many favours.
Un-paywalled here.

Time for you hackers to buy some energy drinks, sit in a gaming chair and get hacking. OpenAI has started its first bug bounty, allowing the public to report security vulnerabilities and receive rewards for doing so. Ranging from $200 all the way up to $20,000 for severe catches, it’s not bad at all! I don’t have the foggiest about digging around inside the inner workings of a computer, so I’ll leave it up to you lot.

If you didn’t know, Zapier Interfaces is an easy way to drag, drop, and create dynamic pages, business processes, and even apps. Now they’ve enabled anyone to:
Build your own customized ChatGPT-powered bot and share/embed it anywhere
Trigger automations based on chat responses with inline Zap buttons
[Coming soon] Integrate your own data and build your own Q&A products with your own business data
That means anyone with any technical ability can build a Q&A system for their data, create their own ChatGPT and automate a bunch of processes from the interactions.
